What to do in Barbados (Podcast)

Hear about travel to Barbados as the Amateur Traveler talks to Jane and Duncan from totraveltoo.com about the time they spent on the island recently.

Jane and Duncan recently spent 3 months in Barbados house sitting. Barbados may not have changed that much since the Amateur Traveler did an episode on Barbados in 2008. People still go to see the wonderful beaches and drink rum drinks watching the sunsets.

Duncan says, “You should really come because at the end of the day what it boiled down to is that it’s the essence of a unique experience, it bubbled down to the people, it bubbled down to the beaches, the lifestyle, the food. The underlying factor that we found was that it was the culture. It was the smiles. It was the Bajan experience. It’s just an amazing place to go and visit. The hospitality is amazing. Definitely, it’s a top destination to consider.”

We talk about a number of places on the island from old plantation houses in the interior, to world-class resort hotels, to the somewhat “rundown” capital of Bridgetown.

We learn what the best beach is for a day out, where you can swim with sea turtles and what beach you should go to to watch the sunset.

Jane and Duncan took a number of tours and share some of the best from walking tours through the history of Bridgetown, to a rum tour, to a beer tour, to an island overview tour which took them to explore a cave and to see the green monkeys.

They highly recommend a visit during Crop Over which started as a sugar cane harvest festival but now is a month-long music festival.

Come hike a trail, or raise a glass of rum in an island full of history and beauty.

Robin on Travel to Washington State – Episode 576

Hi there! Just wanted to mention the pronunciation for Skagit is actually with a soft “g” (i.e. Ska-jit). Otherwise, great information and a good overview of Washington state’s regions, climates, and sights.

3 months house sitting in Barbados sounds like a great deal! I love places that are still “raw” too πŸ™‚
